Meet Robert Routt: Advocate for Healthcare System Reforms and Resilience

Robert B. Routt is a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran, insurance professional, and survivor of a medical crisis that nearly took his life. His journey from a sudden coma to a long, painful—and ultimately inspiring—recovery shaped not only who he is today, but why he chose to write Almost Gone.

In 2015, Robert’s body unexpectedly shut down. He was found unconscious on his bed, unresponsive and clinging to life. When he woke up, nothing was the same. His entire left side was paralyzed. He couldn’t walk without help. He couldn’t use his left hand. He couldn’t even write his own name. He had to relearn everything—from standing and taking steps to writing right-handed and cooking without burning himself.

But through faith, determination, supportive family, and the quiet strength built day by day, Robert fought his way back. His memoir shares the reality of that fight: the confusion, the fear, the setbacks, the small victories, and the grace that helped him rise again.

Today, Robert lives in Clearwater, Florida, where he continues serving others through his insurance business, Routt Insurance, and through sharing his message of resilience and second chances. When he’s not working with clients or writing, he spends time with his family, walks his dog, and speaks openly about survival, gratitude, and the belief that every day is a gift.

Through Almost Gone, Robert hopes to reach anyone struggling with their own battles—to remind them that even in the darkest moments, life isn’t over. There is still purpose, still hope, still strength waiting to be discovered.
